While access to medicines is critical, importing from overseas is not the right answer. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 10 percent of the medicines worldwide and up to 50 percent of the drugs consumed in developing nations are counterfeit. Additionally, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) reports that 96 percent of online pharmacies are out of compliance with laws and regulations. NABP further reports that 88 percent of the online drug sellers do not require a valid prescription and 91 percent appeared to have rogue network affiliations.
