The US Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) has aided in ensuring quality in the American drug supply for almost 20 years. USP’s drug standards are enforced in the US by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are also used in more than 140 other countries. The epidemic that illegal online pharmacies pose spans to more than 10,000 websites that are part of the ‘Not Recommended’ list per the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). Raising awareness and consumer education is the key to protect the consumers from the illegal online drug sellers. These efforts must be led via partnerships between various stakeholders including: public and private organizations, policymakers, law enforcement, pharmaceutical companies, non-profits, Internet commerce companies, along with both domestic and international organizations.
