Campaign Against Fake Drugs Gains Momentum

With rising concerns over counterfeit drugs, medical products and illicit online pharmacies, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory agencies are taking action. The FDA has a new framework to fight the fake medicines through the agency’s Counterfeit Drug Council. The program is laid out in the Global Product Safety Net for SSFFC (substandard, spurious, falsely labeled, falsified, and counterfeit) Medical Products which was reported on at the June 2015 conference, “Fighting Fakes” sponsored by Rx-360. The SSFFC framework also encompasses collaborations between the FDA and various international agencies with aim to take more aggressive action against the “fake pharma” operators.
