No prosecution on cancer patient buying cheap pills overseas
Lu Yong, a 46-year-old man from China, will not be prosecuted for helping other leukemia patients purchase unapproved cancer drugs from a foreign Internet pharmacy. While the act of purchasing the drugs was illegal, prosecutors have decided that his actions did not constitute criminal behavior because Yong did not make a profit on the transactions. Yong was diagnosed with leukemia in 2002 and turned to purchasing his medication from India because of the high cost of the medication within China’s healthcare system.
