Europol, in cooperation with investigators in Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom, has dismantled a vast counterfeit medication ring. Authorities seized several million fake pills valued at EUR 10 million ($14 million US). Another EUR 7.5 million was seized from various bank accounts, and 12 people were arrested. All told, it is thought that around £12m has been taken from victims from as far as Australia in exchange for counterfeit impotency, slimming, and anti-smoking pills that were sold on more than 400 websites since March 2012.
