Trento, 17-18 December 2015

In Trento, on 17 and 18 of December, it will take place the International Conference “The online trade of falsified medicinal products. Knowledge and tools from research to support institutions, pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies”, during which the final results of the European project “Fakecare Developing expertise against the online trade of fake medicines by producing and disseminating knowledge, counterstrategies and tools across the EU” will be reported.

Fakecare project, in which AIFA is a co-beneficiary, is co-funded by the European Commission under the Prevention of and Fight against Crime programme.

The Conference is addressed to health professionals, police forces, associations and other public and private bodies, involved in the fight against falsified medicinal products, often advertised and sold through illegal websites.

The first day will be dedicated to the description of the general framework, characterized by a significant increase in the online purchase of medicinal products, due to the strengthening and extension of e-market and to the growth of the online and offline distribution channels.

During the first session, some results related to the most recent investigative and intelligence activities carried out by the police forces operating in this field, such as the operations “Pangea” and “Farmastore”, will be reported.

The second session will be focused on the different aspects of the online sale of medicinal products, with a particular focus on the recent legislative changes introduced by the EU Member States on the basis of national implementations of the Directive 2011/62/EU, such as the introduction of the common logo that must be displayed by legal e-pharmacies, on the most popular illegal medicinal products available through the internet and on the risks to public health.

During the second day there will be the presentation of the ICT tools developed in the framework of the constant cooperation between the partners involved in Fakecare project and in the other European projects focused on similar items.
In particular, “FAST” (Fakecare Alert System Tool), a web application allowing the automatic identification of illegal e-pharmacies, and the European project Fakeshare (www.fakeshare.eu [1]), that aims to guarantee the coordination and the information exchange on pharmaceutical crime cases at an European level.
