EMD Serono launches app to help patients verify medicine

EMD Serono, the U.S. subsidiary of German company Merck KGaA, has launched an app allowing patients to scan their prescription drugs with a smartphone to verify the legitimacy of the product. The “Check My Meds” app is now available for iPhones and Android products. Kimberly Fleming, Associate Director of Product Security and Outbound Logistics, said that as buying drugs on the Internet has become more commonplace, so have the opportunities to sell counterfeit versions of drugs. The app serves as the latest advancement in an effort to increase security of the drug supply chain and protect patients.
